Introduction & Scope

This Privacy Policy explains what information Sunshine Stories collects when you use our services, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the rights and choices available to you. It also explains how artificial intelligence is involved in certain features.

This policy applies to the Sunshine Stories public website, early-access waitlist, mobile app, and the services they connect to. It is written for the parents and other adults who visit the website, join the waitlist, hold accounts, or use the app.

Sunshine Stories is a general-audience product made for adults who are at least 18 years old. The books created with the app are for children, but the app is not directed to children, and children do not create accounts or use the app themselves. Please see the Children's Privacy section below for more information and for your responsibilities when you provide information about a child.

By using Sunshine Stories, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Sunshine Stories ("Sunshine Stories," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Sunshine Stories app.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information to operate the service and provide the features you request.

Early-Access Waitlist Information

• The email address you submit when you join the early-access list.
• Limited request information, including the page that referred you when provided by your browser, your IP address, and your browser or device user-agent string.
• Information about our communications with you concerning early access.

Joining the list does not create an account or start a subscription.

Account Information

• Your name, email address, and optional phone number.
• A hashed version of your password. We do not store your password in plain text.
• An onboarding preference describing how you plan to use the app, such as for bedtime, lessons, gifts, or exploring.

Photos You Upload

• Photos of a child, pet, or person that you choose to upload as source material for a character.
• Descriptive information derived from an uploaded photo to support character personalization.
• Safety and content-moderation results associated with the photo.

Character & Story Personalization Details

• Character traits and descriptions that you enter or that are derived from content you provide.
• A child's first name, age range, and pronouns.
• Story details you enter, such as a theme, lesson, tone, setting, interest, or other information used to personalize a book.

You decide what personalization details to enter. Please provide only information you are comfortable sharing and, when the information concerns a child, information you are authorized to provide.

Generated Book Content

• Story text, illustrations, cover art, and optional narration audio created for the books you make.
• Drafts, revisions, and related generated content associated with those books.

Subscription & Billing Information

• Subscription and purchase records used to manage access to paid features, such as account, product, and transaction identifiers.
• Subscription status, entitlements, purchase and billing-period dates, cancellation information, and related billing events.

Purchases are handled through the app store and subscription services that support your purchase. We do not collect or store your payment card number. Payment details are handled by the app store and its payment processors under their own terms and privacy policies.

Device & Push-Notification Information

• A push-notification token for your device so we can send service-related notifications, such as letting you know when a book is ready.

You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

Telemetry, Usage & Safety Records

• Product usage information and AI-service usage records that help us operate, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the service.
• Mobile crash reports and diagnostic data, such as app and device version, technical error details, limited navigation context, and a stable account identifier.
• Safety and content-moderation records. These records may include user-provided content and generated content that is reviewed by our safety systems.

Support Messages

• Messages, questions, and other details you send through customer support.
• Information needed to respond to your request and maintain a record of the support conversation.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and personalize the books, characters, illustrations, cover art, and narration you request.
• Analyze uploaded content for character personalization.
• Provide, maintain, and operate your account and the app's features.
• Run safety and content moderation on user-provided and generated content.
• Manage the early-access waitlist, protect its public form from abuse, understand referral sources, and communicate about early access when that program is operating.
• Process and manage subscriptions, purchases, and entitlements.
• Send service-related notifications.
• Respond to support requests and communicate with you about your account.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the performance and quality of the service.
• Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security issues, and violations of our Terms of Service.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.

AI Processing

Sunshine Stories uses AI-assisted services to provide some of its creative, personalization, and safety features.

Depending on the feature you use, text you enter, photos you upload, character and story details, and generated content may be sent to AI service providers. These providers process that information to provide requested features and support safety and content moderation.

AI processing may also produce information derived from the content you provide, such as descriptive character traits or generated book content. We collect and use that information as described in this policy.

Automated safety and content moderation may review both user-provided content and generated content. Moderation results may be retained for the safety, security, audit, and quality purposes described in this policy.

Service Providers & Other Disclosures

We share information with service providers that help us operate Sunshine Stories. They may process information as needed to provide their services to us. We require these service providers to protect your information with safeguards at least as protective as those described in this policy, and they may use it only to provide their services to us.

These provider categories include:

• AI service providers that support content generation, personalization, and moderation.
• Cloud hosting and storage providers that host the service and store account information and generated media.
• App-store, payment, and subscription providers that process purchases and help manage subscription status and entitlements.
• Email delivery providers that send account and service-related messages.
• Push-notification delivery providers that deliver notifications to your device.
• Technical monitoring and diagnostic providers that help us identify crashes and technical errors.

We may also disclose information when required by law, in response to lawful requests, to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or others, or in connection with a business transfer such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, consistent with this policy.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own independent marketing.

Data Retention & Deletion

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, meet the purposes described in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain safety and security, and enforce our agreements.

Removed or Rejected Content

When content is removed in the app, or when content is rejected by moderation, some related records may be retained for a limited period for safety, security, audit, quality, backup, or legal-compliance purposes. This may include records associated with drafts, revisions, uploaded photos, moderation results, or generated content.

Waitlist Information

We retain waitlist information for as long as needed to manage early access, protect the form from abuse, meet the purposes described in this policy, and satisfy legal obligations. You may ask us to remove your waitlist information by emailing hello@sunshinestories.app.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account from within the app. When you do, your account is deactivated, you are signed out, and a 30-day removal window begins. During those 30 days, you can restore your account by signing back in.

After the 30-day window, your account and its stories are removed from active use, subject to the limited retention described in this policy. If you would like your account and its associated data permanently removed sooner, contact us at hello@sunshinestories.app and we will process your request.

Children's Privacy

Sunshine Stories is a general-audience app intended for parents and other adults who are at least 18 years old. It is not directed to children, and it is not a child-directed service under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act or similar laws. Children do not create accounts and are not the users of the app.

The books are made for children. As a parent, guardian, or other authorized adult, you may choose to provide information about a child, such as a first name, age range, pronouns, photo, or other personalization details.

When you provide information about a child, you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian or are otherwise authorized to provide the information, and you consent to our processing it as described in this policy. Please provide only information you are comfortable sharing.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has used the app or provided information directly to us without a parent's involvement, contact us at hello@sunshinestories.app so we can take appropriate steps.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information. These measures include protecting data in transit, hashing passwords, and applying access controls.

No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please protect your account by choosing a strong, unique password and keeping it confidential.

Your Rights & Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights and choices concerning your personal information, including the ability to:

• Access and review information associated with your account.
• Correct or update your account details and the personalization information you entered.
• Delete your account using the in-app account-deletion process described above, subject to the limited retention described in this policy.
• Manage notifications through your device settings.
• Manage your subscription through the app store account used for the purchase.
• Request information or exercise applicable privacy rights by contacting us.

International & State Notes

We may process and store information in countries other than the one where you live, including the United States. When information is transferred across borders, we take steps to handle it consistently with this policy and applicable law.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. These may include rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information and to be free from discrimination for exercising applicable rights.

We do not sell your personal information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date and version shown on this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice through the app.

Your continued use of Sunshine Stories after an update takes effect means you accept the revised policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the service.
